Getting there

  • Subway: the 1 on the west side (Riverdale, Van Cortlandt Park), the 4, B and D along the Grand Concourse, the 5 and 6 in the central and eastern Bronx (MTA Bronx map)

What marrying in the Bronx is like

A Bronx wedding can be one weekday morning at the City Clerk office on the Grand Concourse: your license, one witness, the $25 fee, and a marriage certificate in your hands before you walk back out. It can also be a full day with guests, in a garden, a ballroom or a room over the water. The New York Botanical Garden holds weddings across its 250-acre garden, and the Bronx Zoo hosts catered weddings with ceremonies among its exhibits.

The borough is spread out, and that shapes the plan. Riverdale sits on the west side along the 1 train, City Island and Throggs Neck are out east by the water, and Mott Haven is in the South Bronx near the bridges. Pick the ceremony and the party close together if you can, and send guests the exact train line or ferry stop for each one.

Couples marry in gardens (the New York Botanical Garden in Bronx Park and Wave Hill in Riverdale, each booked through its own events team), at the Bronx Zoo, in waterfront restaurants on City Island, in Throggs Neck ballrooms and in smaller event spaces in Mott Haven. Public parks such as Pelham Bay Park, Van Cortlandt Park and Orchard Beach need a NYC Parks Special Event Permit once you have more than 20 people, or if you want amplified sound, a tent or a reserved spot (checked September 2026).

Finding vendors in the Bronx

The New York Botanical Garden, Wave Hill and the Bronx Zoo book weddings through their own events teams, and many ballrooms and restaurant banquet rooms sell catering and an open bar with the room, so ask the venue what it includes before you hire a caterer. For a photographer, florist, officiant or hair and makeup artist, ask whether they travel to your venue, whether they are free on your date and what the price includes.
