Privacy policy

Get Married in NYC is an independent guide, in English and Spanish, to getting married in New York City and within two hours of Manhattan, with a directory of wedding vendors. The site is operated by Web Leveling, based in Harris County, Texas. When this policy says "Get Married in NYC", "we", "us" or "our", it means the operator of getmarriedinnyc.com. "You" means anyone who visits the site or writes to us.

The way to reach us about privacy is the contact form. Choose any topic and start your message with "Privacy request". Every message sent through the form reaches us.

• You can read every guide and browse the vendor directory without giving us your name or email address.
• We collect what you choose to send through the contact form or the newsletter signup and what our web host records to deliver and protect the site. Analytics runs only if you say yes in the cookie banner.
• We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
• Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity load only after you choose Accept, and never when your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal.
• You can ask to see, correct or delete your information through the contact form.

The contact form. The contact page has one form, processed by Netlify Forms, the form service of our web host, Netlify. It collects your name, your email address, the topic you pick (a question about a guide, a correction, a vendor listing or something else) and your message. The form also has a hidden spam trap field that people never see or fill in. We keep what you wrote, the details you gave and our reply, so we can answer you and follow up.

Reviews. The Write a review form on a vendor listing collects your star rating, the month you used the business, what you used it for and your review if you wrote one, your name and your email address. A person reads it before anything appears. If it is published, the listing shows your first name and last initial and the rest of what you chose to write; your email address is never shown. We keep a coded fingerprint of your email address, not the address itself, so we can keep to one review per person for each business. The form submission stays in Netlify Forms, and you can ask us to remove your review through the contact form. The review guidelines explain what is published.

The newsletter. The signup at the bottom of every page asks for your email address and, if you like, your first name. It also records the language of the page and which page you signed up from. Nothing is added to the list until you click the link in the confirmation email we send you (double opt-in). The list is kept by Brevo, the email service that sends the newsletter, and every email has a link to leave the list.

Please do not send us sensitive information, such as health details, financial account numbers or government ID numbers. The form never asks for it. Questions about your own marriage license or record belong with the NYC Office of the City Clerk, which holds that information.

Server logs kept by our host. Like every website, getmarriedinnyc.com is delivered by servers that record basic technical details of each request, such as your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, your browser and device type and the page that sent you. Netlify keeps these logs to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of you.

Analytics, only with your consent. If you choose Accept in the cookie banner, the site loads:

• Google Analytics 4, which shows which pages are read, how visitors arrive, roughly where they are (city or region, worked out from the IP address), what device and browser they use and how long they stay.
• Microsoft Clarity, which records how visitors move through a page, such as clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, to produce heatmaps and session replays. Clarity is designed to mask text typed into form fields.

If you choose Reject, ignore the banner, or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, neither tool loads and no analytics cookies are set. The cookie policy lists each cookie these tools set and how long it lasts.

Affiliate links. Some links to stores are affiliate links. When you follow one, the store, for example Amazon, uses its own cookies on its own site to know you came from Get Married in NYC, so it can pay a commission if you buy. The store handles that under its own privacy policy. Amazon reports sales to us as totals and does not tell us who you are or what you bought. The affiliate disclosure explains more.

Settings stored in your browser. The site stores your cookie choice and, if you use the theme toggle, your light or dark theme in your browser's local storage. These stay on your device and are never sent to us.

Fonts. The site's font is served from getmarriedinnyc.com itself, so loading a page sends nothing to a font provider.

The vendor directory lists wedding businesses across the five boroughs and nearby places. Each listing is built from the business's public Google Business Profile: its name, category, address or service area, phone number, website and hours, with a short description.

Most of this is information about a business. Some businesses are run by one person under their own name, from a home address or with a personal phone number. If that is you, you can ask us through the contact form to correct your listing, hide your street address or remove the listing. Removal here leaves your listing on Google Maps as it is.

European and UK law ask us to name a legal basis for each use, so we list those too.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, you can object at any time. We make no decisions about you by automated processing alone, and we do not use your information to train artificial intelligence models.

We share personal information only with the service providers that help run the site, each under its own terms and privacy commitments:

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, such as for a valid subpoena or court order; to protect the rights, property or safety of the site, its visitors or others; or as part of a sale or transfer of the site, in which case the new owner must honor this policy for the information it receives.

Get Married in NYC is run from the United States, and its providers store and process information there, and, for Brevo, in the European Union. If you use the site from another country, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from yours. For information from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, those transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions where the provider is certified, and otherwise on the Standard Contractual Clauses in the provider's data processing terms.

• Contact form messages: while we deal with your message, and then for a set period.
• Analytics data: kept by Google and Microsoft for the retention periods set in each tool; the cookie policy lists cookie lifetimes.
• Server logs: kept by Netlify for its own limited period.
• Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only your email address on a suppression list, so we never email you again by mistake.
• Directory listings: kept while the directory runs and the business is open, unless the business asks for removal.

• Form submissions and messages: kept while we deal with your message, and then only as long as Texas law requires.

• Analytics: choose "Cookie settings" at the bottom of any page to change your answer. Turning analytics off stops the tools from loading on your next page view.
• Newsletter: use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any newsletter email.
• Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends this signal, it counts as a refusal of analytics and an opt-out of any sale or sharing, automatically.
• Your browser: you can block or delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings. The site still works without them.

If data protection law there applies to how we handle your information, you have the right to:

• Access: find out whether we hold information about you and get a copy.
• Rectification: have inaccurate or incomplete information corrected.
• Erasure: have your information deleted where there is no good reason to keep it.
• Restriction: ask us to pause using your information while a question about it is settled.
• Portability: receive information you gave us in a common machine-readable format.
• Objection: object to uses based on legitimate interests.
• Withdraw consent: withdraw your analytics consent at any time, through Cookie settings. This does not affect what happened before you withdrew it.
• Complain: lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, in particular where you live or work. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office.

Several US states, including California, give residents privacy rights. Which ones apply depends on where you live and whether the law covers this site, but every US visitor who asks can use these:

• Know and access the personal information we hold about you, where it came from, why we use it and who receives it.
• Delete personal information we collected from or about you, subject to exceptions the law allows.
• Correct inaccurate personal information.
• Opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising and profiling. We do none of these; a Global Privacy Control signal is honored automatically as an opt-out.
• Non-discrimination: using any of these rights never changes the site you get.
• Appeal: if we decline a request, reply through the contact form with "Appeal" in your message. If you are still not satisfied, you can contact your state attorney general.

Do we sell or share personal information? No. We have not sold personal information in the past 12 months. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity load only with your opt-in consent, never under Global Privacy Control, and are used to measure this site. No advertising runs on it. We do not collect sensitive personal information, and we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing.

1. Send a message through the contact form that starts with "Privacy request". Say what you would like us to do and which state or country you live in.
2. Use the email address you gave us before, if any, so we can find your information. We may ask a follow-up question to confirm who you are, and we use what you give us only to answer the request.
3. We answer within the time the law where you live allows, and tell you if we need longer.

Requests are free. You can also have an authorized agent act for you with your signed permission.

The site is written for adults planning a wedding. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or from anyone under 16 in the European Union or the UK. If you think a child sent us information, tell us through the contact form and we will delete it.

A Global Privacy Control signal from your browser is honored automatically: analytics does not load, and the signal counts as an opt-out under the US state laws that recognize it. Do Not Track is an older setting with no agreed standard, and we do not respond to it separately; because analytics only loads after you accept, a visitor who does nothing is not tracked.

The whole site is served over encrypted HTTPS. The contact form has spam protection, and access to form messages and analytics accounts is limited to the people who need it. No website is completely secure, so if a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.

The guides link to official sources such as the City Clerk, to vendors' own websites and to stores. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and this policy does not cover them.

We update this policy when the site changes and change the date at the top each time. If a change needs your consent, the cookie banner asks again first.
