# Connecticut Wedding Venues Within Reach of New York City

![A woman and a man, both with deep brown skin, in everyday clothes walk across a lawn beside a cedar-shingled waterfront pavilion with a wide porch and stacked white chairs, with salt marsh grass and calm grey-blue water beyond](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/images/guide-connecticut-wedding-venues-near-nyc/couple-walking-past-a-cedar-shingled-waterfront-wedding-pavilion-in-connecticut.jpg)

Connecticut wedding venues near NYC usually means southwestern or coastal Connecticut, where your guests can arrive from Manhattan by Metro-North or car. The closest choices are in Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk, Fairfield, Bridgeport and nearby towns, and they range from waterfront pavilions and historic mansions to hotels, barns, estates and restaurants. Capacities and prices vary widely; some venues publish packages and others prepare a custom proposal. If your ceremony will be in Connecticut, you apply for a Connecticut marriage license in the town where the ceremony takes place, not a New York license. Connecticut charges $50, adds a 48-hour waiting period beginning October 1, 2026, and keeps the license valid for 65 days.

## Key takeaways

- Most guests can reach Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk, Fairfield and Bridgeport on the New Haven Line from Grand Central, but many venues still need a taxi, shuttle or car from the station.
- Some venues publish capacities and package prices; others quote only after an inquiry.
- A Connecticut ceremony needs a Connecticut license from the ceremony town: $50, a 48-hour wait beginning October 1, 2026, and 65 days of validity.
- Popular fall Saturdays are booked about 12 to 18 months ahead.
- Ask about minimums, taxes, service charges, outside vendors, the rain plan and the end time before you sign.

## The short answer: what "near NYC" means in Connecticut

For most couples, near NYC means a Connecticut venue that keeps the trip easy for a guest list that is mostly in the city. You get more space, water views or countryside than a Manhattan room usually offers, and the trip from Grand Central stays within a train ride or a drive.

Start with three decisions: how many guests you expect, what kind of setting you want, and where the legal ceremony will happen. Those three choices narrow the list faster than a long search. If many of your guests are flying in from far away, read our guide to [planning a destination wedding in New York City](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/guides/destination-wedding-in-nyc/) before you commit to a second state, because a Connecticut venue adds a train or car leg to their trip.

## Which Connecticut areas are easiest from Manhattan

The New Haven Line runs from Grand Central into Connecticut, and the towns closest to the city are the easiest for guests. The [MTA New Haven Line schedules](https://www.mta.info/schedules/metro-north/new-haven) list every train. The times below come from the [MTA timetable](https://www.mta.info/document/186146) effective October 5, 2025, so check the current schedule for your date. Road times depend on traffic, especially on Friday afternoons and summer weekends.

![A silver commuter train with no markings curves along an embankment through a Connecticut coastal salt marsh on a bright morning, with small boats moored in a tidal inlet in the foreground and shingled houses on the far bank](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/images/guide-connecticut-wedding-venues-near-nyc/commuter-train-along-a-connecticut-salt-marsh-with-moored-boats.jpg)

| Station | Scheduled train time from Grand Central | Typical drive from Grand Central |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Greenwich | About 40 to 55 minutes | About 42 minutes ([Rome2Rio](https://www.rome2rio.com/s/Grand-Central-Terminal/Greenwich-CT-USA), about 29.8 miles) |
| Stamford | About 50 to 65 minutes | About 50 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes |
| Norwalk / South Norwalk | About 55 to 75 minutes | About 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes |
| Fairfield | About 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes | About 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes |
| Bridgeport | About 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes | About 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours |
| Milford | About 1 hour 35 minutes to 2 hours | About 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes |
| New Haven | About 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 20 minutes | About 2 hours or more |

Greenwich and Stamford keep the trip shortest. Fairfield and Bridgeport sit near the middle and have the most waterfront and historic options in the table below. Milford and New Haven are about as far as "within two hours of Manhattan" stretches, so they suit a couple whose guests are happy to spend a full day on the trip.

## What kinds of venues you can book

Connecticut near the city offers more variety than you might expect. The examples below show the types you will see, and each links to the venue's own page.

- **Waterfront pavilions and industrial waterfront spaces.** Fairfield's [Penfield Pavilion and Jacky Durrell Pavilion](https://www.experiencefairfieldct.org/weddings) sit on the water, and [The Knowlton](https://theknowlton.com/) in Bridgeport is a waterfront industrial venue.
- **Historic mansions and estates.** Fairfield's Burr Mansion and The Folly, and [Tarrywile Mansion](https://tarrywile.com/) in Danbury, suit a couple who wants a house with grounds.
- **Clubs and museums.** The [Patterson Club](https://thepattersonclub.com/weddings-and-events) is a country club in Fairfield, and the Fairfield Museum and History Center hosts weddings indoors and outdoors.
- **Hotels and restaurants.** [The J House](https://www.jhousegreenwich.com/meetings-events/weddings) in Greenwich offers a garden patio, a riverside room, a private dining room and a gallery, which fits smaller guest lists and rehearsal dinners.
- **Farms and barns.** [Tyrone Farm](https://tyronefarm.com/weddings-and-events//) in Pomfret is a seasonal farm and barn venue.
- **State-park ceremonies.** The terrace at [Gillette Castle State Park](https://portal.ct.gov/deep/state-parks/parks/gillette-castle-state-park/weddings) in East Haddam holds ceremonies only. It has no reception facilities, so you need a second location for the party.

If you like the idea of a vineyard celebration, the vineyards across the Sound are covered in our guide to [Long Island and North Fork vineyard weddings](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/guides/long-island-north-fork-vineyard-weddings/).

## Which venues publish capacity and pricing

Venue pages change, and these figures were checked on October 9, 2026. Where the table says to ask for a proposal, request a dated one for your date and guest count, since capacity and price both change with the season.

Tyrone Farm shows how a published package can read. Its $9,500 tier covers a ceremony and reception for 60 to 135 guests during the June to October season. At Gillette Castle, the $285 fee covers one-half hour of terrace use, 20 chairs, a lectern, an extension cord, up to three vehicles, photographs and possible Friday rehearsal time. Ceremonies run on Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. or 5:30 p.m., from June through September, and the rain plan is the side porch. The park also says members of the public may hold small weddings on park grounds without a permit, subject to public-use conditions, so confirm your exact spot and activity with the park before you plan around it.

## How guests get there

Most guests will ride the New Haven Line to the nearest station and then need one more leg. Many Connecticut venues are not within walking distance of a station, so plan for a taxi, rideshare, shuttle or private car, and ask the venue three things: how far it is from the nearest station, where guests can park, and whether it works with a shuttle company.

For a guest list that mixes train riders and drivers, put the Grand Central train times, the station name and the venue address in one place, such as your wedding website, and add a late-night option for the way home. Our guide to [wedding guest transportation in NYC](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/guides/wedding-guest-transportation-nyc/) covers shuttle and car planning in more detail. If guests will lean on train schedules and rideshare apps all day, a small portable phone charger in their welcome bag helps; look for one that fits a pocket and holds enough charge for a full day.

## The Connecticut marriage license

A Connecticut ceremony needs a Connecticut license. A New York license is not the one to use, and the Connecticut license must come from the town where the ceremony will take place. Here is how it works, according to the [Connecticut Department of Public Health](https://portal.ct.gov/dph/vital-records/license-to-get-married):

![Two women in everyday clothes, one with warm tan skin and one with dark brown skin, sit on a bench on a New England town green outside a small red-brick town hall with a white cupola; one tucks a slim folder into a shoulder bag while the other points along the path toward the door](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/images/guide-connecticut-wedding-venues-near-nyc/two-women-on-a-new-england-town-green-outside-a-red-brick-town-hall.jpg)

- **Where to apply.** Both of you apply in person at the town clerk office of the ceremony town. [Norwalk](https://www.norwalkct.gov/164/Marriage-Licenses) and the [Greenwich Town Clerk](https://www.greenwichct.gov/319/Town-Clerk) post their own procedures, and each town sets its own appointment and application details.
- **What to bring.** Physical photo identification, and you complete a sworn application. No blood test is required.
- **Fee.** $50 per license ([Connecticut DPH](https://portal.ct.gov/dph/vital-records/marriage-and-civil-union-certificates)).
- **Waiting period.** Beginning October 1, 2026, the town cannot issue the license until at least 48 hours after both of you sign the application. Confirm the current wait and fee with the town clerk before your date.
- **Validity.** The license is valid for 65 days after it is issued, so schedule the ceremony inside that window.
- **Who may officiate.** Judges and retired judges, certain Connecticut judicial officers, justices of the peace appointed in Connecticut, and ordained or licensed clergy, including clergy ordained through online ministries, may officiate. Connecticut's rules govern here, not New York's, so check them with your officiant. Our guide to [hiring a wedding officiant in NYC](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/guides/wedding-officiant-nyc/) covers the New York side.
- **After the ceremony.** Your officiant submits the completed license to the registrar of the town where the ceremony took place.
- **Witnesses.** Ask the town clerk and your officiant whether witnesses are needed for your ceremony, and bring them if the answer is yes.

If you decide to marry in New York instead, the steps differ; see our [step-by-step NYC marriage license guide](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/guides/nyc-marriage-license/). If you or your partner would like help in Spanish, ask the town clerk which language assistance is available, since the Connecticut license pages are in English.

## What to ask before you book

A published capacity or package price is a starting point. Before you sign, ask each venue:

- What is the minimum, and is it a guest count or a food and beverage spend?
- Are [taxes, service charges and gratuity](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/guides/nyc-wedding-venue-service-charge-tax-gratuity/) added on top of the quote?
- Is catering included, and can you bring an outside caterer or other [outside vendors](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/guides/outside-vendor-rules-nyc-wedding-venues/)?
- Who handles [alcohol](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/guides/wedding-bar-alcohol-rules-nyc/)?
- Is there a separate ceremony fee?
- What is the indoor [rain plan](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/guides/nyc-wedding-rain-plan/), and who decides when to use it?
- When must the [music end](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/guides/nyc-wedding-sound-permit-amplified-music/)?
- Is the space [accessible](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/guides/accessible-wedding-venues-nyc/) for guests who use wheelchairs or have trouble with stairs?
- Is there lodging on site or nearby, and does a shuttle run?
- What are the deposit amounts, the payment schedule and the cancellation terms?

Keep the proposal, license paperwork, hotel block details and contract together in one document folder, with an expanding file organizer working well for this, so you can find the right page at a tour or at a clerk's counter.

Timing matters too. Fairfield says September is its most popular wedding month and that most couples reserve about 13 months ahead. [The Knowlton](https://theknowlton.com/faq) says most groups book 12 to 18 months ahead, especially for Saturdays and fall weekends. Seasonal and smaller venues may follow a different calendar.

## Where guests can stay

Some hotels publish wedding room blocks or group rates. [Hyatt Place Mystic](https://www.hyatt.com/hyatt-place/en-US/bdlzy-hyatt-place-mystic/weddings) offers wedding room blocks and group booking perks for coastal Connecticut weddings, and [Classic Hotels of Connecticut](https://www.classichotelsofct.com/specialevents) publishes wedding group rates and room-block information. One Saybrook Point Inn wedding page shows [example block rates](https://www.theknot.com/us/emily-tucker-and-carter-defigueiredo-sep-2026/accommodations) of $399 for a king room and $429 for a luxury two-queen room on specified September 2026 dates; those are one wedding's rates, not a standing price. A [wedding package PDF](https://downloads.ctfassets.net/wt661n6a6npp/6QamU437qxDhxOQ6SDOLKF/73b0b4188ace30eed0d804c55909372a/Wedding-Packages-2023.pdf) says blocks can start at 10 rooms per night for two nights.

![The front porch of a white clapboard inn in a Connecticut shore village with white wicker chairs and potted hydrangeas, an innkeeper seen from behind greeting a wedding guest in their sixties who arrives with a small rolling suitcase](https://getmarriedinnyc.com/images/guide-connecticut-wedding-venues-near-nyc/innkeeper-greeting-a-wedding-guest-on-the-porch-of-a-connecticut-shore-inn.jpg)

Ask each hotel about availability, the rate, minimum pickup, the cutoff date, attrition and cancellation terms before you tell guests where to book.
